I always read your emails with eager anticipation but the last item in this one has hit a raw nerve. My job will be redundant at the end of the month - "going offshore" - to Australia, so to have you encourage your readers to send even more work offshore unsettles me.

Perhaps an alternative would be for people to first offer the number crunching to a local accountancy student. Times have always been tough for students and must be getting even tougher these days with a cheap overseas workforce just a website away.

With so many jobs becoming redundant at the moment perhaps it's time to bring back the old 'BUY NEW ZEALAND MADE' slogan of the 70's.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, and I do appreciate and value your concerns.

I've had my share of redundancies over the years as well, and they sent me on adventures I was surprisingly soon very glad of. We never stop learning in life, do we! But - I can appreciate why the ezine hit a raw nerve. Sorry about that.

You'll also be pleased to know that we've often had university students do work for us, and right now we've got a 2d year engineering student helping with our IT/web things. One of the ways I think the 'flat world' of Thomas Friedman really brings value is that everyone in any country can tender for work in any other country, if they're some kind of knowledge worker. You might find the book very interesting - and he does address the concerns of taking work away from the country of source. In a short review there's no way I could address every point, as I'm sure you'll appreciate
